In a recent episode of the Fox TV drama “Bones”, a character made a mix of “the five greatest break-up songs” and gave it to a heart-broken colleague. The mix featured songs from alternative pop stars Sia, Mazzy Star, José González, Antony and the Johnsons…and an unsigned artist by the name of Aaron English.
Nashville-based singer-songwriter/pianist Aaron English’s soul-searching songs are sophisticated, cinematic…and filled with echoes of his travels through Africa and the Middle East. His four self-released albums have drawn comparisons to Peter Gabriel, James Blunt, David Gray, Sting, Robert Plant and Paul Simon.
The feature on “Bones” is just one of English’s notable achievements, which also includes Top 5 radio hit in Italy, Top 20 radio hit in the U.S., two hits in Pakistan, and being named a Keyboard Magazine “Artist to Watch”. His music has been heard on CBS, NBC, Bravo and TBS, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, and ads for Google, Chevrolet, Motorola, Patagonia, Kaiser Permanente, Price Waterhouse Cooper and Kraft Foods.
In 2015, Aaron spent two months in East Africa, where he founded the International Youth Music Project, a charity that supports youth music programs at orphanages, refugee camps and HIV/AIDS+ community centers.
Aaron divides his time between touring in the U.S. and Europe, his charity efforts in Africa, twice-weekly livestream concerts on StageIt, and long-distance song and video collaborations with musicians around the world.
“A unique and brilliantly creative songwriter…Aaron English [has] wandered the globe’s highways and back roads encountering, absorbing, evolving and cross-pollinating everything he encounters in his journey.”
~ Dancing About Architecture
“A talented new artist in a class with other stylistically challenging singer-songwriters such as Peter Gabriel, Joseph Arthur, and Perry Blake…potent lyricism, eloquence, and beautiful sublime melodies that reach much deeper than simple pop songs.”
~ Progression Magazine
“One of the most talented piano men I have ever encountered and one of America's finest songwriters...English may prove to be the most relevant songwriter of the year. Pure contemplative genius."
~ Ryan’s Smashing Life / Outlaw Roadshow
