Performances

Solo/duo/trio acoustic performances are the norm, and make upmost of the event. Here are the typical performance types that work in our fast-paced show:
  • Play the acoustic guitar / play and sing
  • Play the piano / Play the piano and sing
  • Small acoustic duo or trio max (no setup or amps needed)

Our events allocate exactly 5 minutes maximum for each act. So your setup must be QUICK and PAINLESS! We have a fast-paced show. The idea is to present your spirit and your art in its purest form.

What if you don’t perform?
We have lyricists and writers in the Indie Collaborative who are not performers, but they can still get use their 5 minutes to tell the crowd what they do, and what they’re looking for! You can play a short piece from your phone into the mic if you feel that it’s necessary.

More Tech Stuff
We cannot play videos or backing tracks.
There is a grand piano on stage. It’s not pretty, but it’s been played by some of the most legendary artists in the history of music.

Refund Policy
Due to the high cost of putting on these events, we cannot give refunds. In the past we’ve had people who didn’t get a performance slot request a refund. This is not possible. You should want to come in order to be a part of a magical evening of friendship, camaraderie, music and plain old fun, whether you perform or not.

El Portal Theatre is a historic landmark in the San Fernando Valley located in the heart of North Hollywood just minutes from Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, Disney, ABC, CBS-Radford and NBC. The theatre, originally built as a vaudeville house in 1926, sits across from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Art Institute of California - Hollywood, and the new Laemmle 7 Screen Theaters. The art deco marquee is visible to thousands of cars that travel on Lankershim Boulevard daily. In the mid 2000’s the long awaited redevelopment of North Hollywood came to fruition with the grand openings of restaurants, upscale shops and a charming, urbanesque environment.

Artists who have graced the stage just during the last few decades include:
Jason Alexander, Paul Rodriguez, Fritz Coleman, JoAnne Worley, Joseph Bologna, Rip Taylor, Debbie Reynolds, Bea Arthur, Ed Begley, Jr., Hal Linden, Carol Lawrence, Sally Struthers, Carol Channing, The Manhattan Transfer, Edith Head, and Smokey Robinson, to name a few.
